"Why I Volunteer," Featuring Jose Albarran

At Sturgis Bank, we aim to foster an environment where our team members can actively engage with the community and make a positive impact. Jose Albarran, VP Branch Manager and Mortgage Loan Originator for Branch County, exemplifies this commitment to involvement. His dedication to lending a hand locally is a testament to his character and reflects the values instilled in him from a young age.

Jose's dedication to service has deep roots. "I have been volunteering for as long as I can remember; it was something my dad instilled in us," he explains. "He always said if you can help in any way, you should." This foundational principle has guided Jose throughout his life, shaping his approach to community involvement. He finds his work both humbling and rewarding, a constant reminder to stay grounded and grateful.

Jose's efforts span multiple organizations within his community. He actively volunteers as Treasurer for the Sturgis Eastside Kiwanis, serves on the Board of Bronson Community Schools, participates in the School Savings Program, and is a board member of the Tibbits Opera House in Coldwater. Among his various volunteer activities, Jose has a particular passion for his work in schools. "All areas where I help are dear to me, but I love assisting at the schools," he says. "I feel like I can help local families who don't speak fluent English feel comfortable and heard." His ability to bridge communication gaps and foster inclusivity has a significant impact not only in the schools he serves but also within Sturgis Bank.

During his time volunteering, Jose is frequently joined by his Sturgis Bank team members. He also enjoys volunteering with his wife, and when their children were living at home, they were encouraged to participate as well. This shared commitment to service has strengthened their family bond and instilled in their children the value of giving back, the same value Jose’s father taught him.

We are grateful to have Jose as a valued part of our team and appreciate the time he pours into the community that we are a part of. He reminds us that our work and responsibility extend beyond our office walls and into the neighborhoods we are a part of.
